The Union Internationale de Spéléologie (UIS) is the international organization for cave exploration, science, management, and fellowship. It is comprised of 55 member countries (more are welcome to join!) from all continents (except Antarctica). Founded in 1965, it works through its member countries, 21 commissions on specialty topics in speleology, and many partner organizations to advance speleological knowledge and communication around the world. The UIS’ current major project is International Year of Caves and Karst, a global program to teach people everywhere about their importance.
