The International Geographical Union (IGU) Karst Commission is one of the 36 special committees within the IGU. The IGU is an  international geographical society that promotes the study of geographical problems and coordination of research among its members. The IGU Karst Commission specifically aims to advance knowledge of the geomorphology and hydrology of karst, especially in relation to the impacts of human activities, to improve understanding of the issues involved in sustainable development of karst terrains, and to improve understanding of the natural and anthropogenic hazards in karst areas.
