In 2021 Mariana Barbosa Timo, a member of the Sociedade Brasileira de Espeleologia and the technical director of Spelayon Consulting in Belo Horizonte, successfully defended her doctoral theses entitled “Geotourism in Arcos-Pains Karst Region, Minas Gerais, Brazil”. The State of Minas Gerais is divided between the Mata Atlantica and Cerrado BRs.
We first met Mariana during our CaveMAB Workshop at the Karst2020 Virtual Conference held by Western Kentucky University, the George Wright Society, and the Mammoth Cave Biosphere Region on August 20, 2020 in support of UNESCO science programs. During this workshop a subcommittee was formed to coordinate proposed ideas of one collective action that CaveMAB could take to support the IYCK 2021 and celebrate the 50th anniversary of MAB. During the process she took on the job of editing our network’s celebratory video of the #Together for Caves and BRs campaign as part of her commitment to all UNESCO science programs.
You can access her doctoral theses which develops towards the idea of the UNESCO Geopark’s program here.
